PANSOPHIA GALA DINNER SPEECH
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of Pansophia Foundation, I would like to say welcome and thank you very much for coming and supporting this charity gala dinner tonight.

It all started 8 years ago when ibu Magda, Ibu Millie and I went to the slump area in Dadap, North of Jakarta. It was a fishermen village and a red district area. The place was very dirty and smelly; it was not a proper place to live. However there were many poor and unwanted children live and play in that area.

Our hearts were very moved by compassion but we weren’t sure whether we should take this responsibility since we all were very busy already. Bu Millie with her magazines, Bu Magda with her W projects and myself already has more than 20 schools all over the country. Our hands were quite full already.

When we were there, we saw a beautiful little girl around 6-7 years old, she was staring at us with eyes full of hope, it seems like she’s sayings are you ladies coming here to help us??
One or two weeks later we went back to that place again, we asked where is that beautiful little girl? The answer was quite shocking, she is gone, she was sold by her parents for 2miollions rupiah to a pimp. Our hearts were broken and that was the turning point for us. How could this happen? Are we going to be silent and do nothing and just say kasihan, poor little girl??

From that moment, we made the commitment that we will do anything we can to help these poor children. They did not ask to be born in such a place. What if we were born in that place instead?? I’m sure we would hope that someone would come and help.
We started with 20 children, I remembered the first day we started school, when we called their names one by one, and there was no respond from them. Then I was told that they were never called by their name. Their nicknames were stupid, bastard and all kind of animal’s name.
If these children continue to grow up with this kind of violence and receive no love, what are they going to become? They will become criminals and create more problems in the society where we live. We cannot close our eyes and say that’s not my problem. Some of you might familiar with the universal principle of oneness, that we live in one planet and we are one people. Whatever happens in North Pole will affect us who live in Bali. Whatever happens to the smallest and the poorest in our society will affect how we live as well.
Problems will never go away by itself. We need to stand together to face this reality and do something about it.

It has not been an easy journey; the most challenging thing that we faced was the parent itself. They were used to exploit their children for money. Even the kids are used to earn money, so why bother go to school?
As a foundation, we’re trying to give the best methodology to the school we build. We want the give these children the right to be happy and the right to remain children. Pansophia means All Knowledge. It’s not enough just to a build school. Like a saying, it’s not enough to know what is right. It’s not enough to do what is right. We need to do what is right rightly. As a foundation, we’re doing our best to give the right kind of education, which will open their eyes so they can dream to have a better future.
We don’t only educate the children but we educate the parents as well so they too can see the bigger picture and the long-term vision. And the most important thing, we also educate and train the teachers consistently to achieve sustainable results.

In this opportunity I would like to show you a video about the education in Pansophia.

I’m very honored to be able to work with powerful strong ladies Bu Magda dan Bu Millie. I would also like to honor the late Ibu Maria Lukito and the late Ibu May Summarow.
As you see, we still have many home works to do. What we are doing is less than 0.005%
Let’s work together to help these vulnerable children. Let’s help them to be free from abuse and exploitation. Let us open our heart and extend our helping hands to keep their hopes alive.

Thank you
